Having a
positive outlook is generally the first step to achieving your targets and it may
perhaps help to understand that most researchers have faced and overcome challenges
such as the following:
1.
Lack of self-confidence
Doing PhD gives
you enormous exposure. But you need to keep up your level of self-confidence
and self-belief. If by any chance it drops, you can boost your confidence by:
·
Seeking positive PhD guidance and feedback from
experts
·
Acknowledging your achievements
until now
·
Accumulating your competencies
·
Giving yourself a break by
trying out new things
2.
Poor time management
Take out some
time for planning and make sure you are dedicating sufficient amount of time to
the tasks you are undertaking and then review the status of proceedings. If you
are not accomplishing your targets, dig deep to find out the reason and make a
change accordingly.
3.
Lack of focus or direction
·
If you feel that your research
is moving in an unstated direction, try to refocus on your key objectives.
·
Discuss with your director and
ask for some PhD assistance
·
Redraft your research proposal which
will help you evaluate what the project is all about
·
Reword your project plan with
the purpose of having a clear idea about the next step to be taken and how it
fits into the big picture
·
You can take a short break as
you may possibly be bogged down with so much of data
4.
Lack of guidance and support
·
Pursuing PhD can sometimes
leave you lonely and isolating. Try to grab opportunities to expand your support
network.
·
Just think, are you using all
of your contacts enough?
·
Try to work in teams, if
possible.
·
Build up healthy affiliation
with your supervisor
